Unlocking the G. Loomis Story Archives (finally)…

Hi Friends,

I have always wanted to share some of the G. Loomis fishing stories with you, but it has been difficult to find them, and when we did, difficult to transpose them to paper. But, persistence has finally paid off. Staring with this issue of our newsletter we will include a story from a G. Loomis customer or one of G. Loomis’ management team about their fishing experience. These fish stories really ring true; they tell what a great experience it is.

We have stories from Bruce Holt (G. Loomis General Manager), legendary basketball coach Bobby Knight, Fishing Hall of Fame members Jerry McKinnis, Billy and Bobby Murray, and world famous golfer Johnny Miller.

We hope you will enjoy these timeless stories. After all, a big part of fishing is relating the experience to others, perhaps with a wee bit of embellishment. So, take a look at our last feature for the first installment from the G. Loomis archives.
Ohio River Stripers and How to Catch Them
(at least, in our opinion)…

Starting in late September everyone at American Legacy Fishing has had Striper Fever, and can’t wait to get in the boat and head for the locks and dam in Newburgh, Indiana. As fall progresses, the fish seem to get more aggressive and a lot bigger.

So, how are we catching them? Here’s the scoop:

We use 50# braided line on a fast action, heavy power casting rod such as the G. Loomis MBR844C GLX or the MUR844C-MB Muskie Rod. On the end we slip on a sinker slide such as an Eagle Claw, Sea Striker, or Quick Slide. On the sinker slide clip we hang a 3 oz river sinker and after that we tie on a saltwater barrel swivel.

On the other end of the barrel swivel we tie on 3 ft of 20# 100% fluorocarbon line and on the end of that a 6/0 Gamakatsu (or similar) live bait hook.

Now, the trick: On to the 6/0 hook use a Storm Wildeye or similar 6″ long plastic shad flutter tail (some call it a button tail) in WHITE. Once rigged up get up to the side of the heaviest turbulence water right below the dam and cast in to the most turbulent, rushing part of the water. Keep your line tight, let the sinker work toward bottom, and then work the rig back to the boat. And hold on…big stripers are on the bottom, small stripers tend to be on the top. Our Pros have had the greatest success after the sun is up in the mornings up until about noon. Then the bite seems to disappear.

We hope you will try this and e-mail us pictures of any big ones for our “Braggin Board.” Good luck and tight lines.

Cold Weather Today. Can Christmas be far away?
I don’t know about where you are, but here in Southern Indiana we’ve had a very enjoyable fall (read not cold or rainy). But, now it is COLD and we are reminded that Thanksgiving and the Christmas shopping season is just around the corner. The crowds, the pushing and shoving, the scarce parking spaces … it just seems to take some of the fun out of the season.

So, here’s an idea. Instead of guessing what that fisherman or fisherwoman would really like, consider one of American Legacy Fishing’s Gift Cards. They come in denominations of $50.00 to $1,000.00 and are easily purchased on our web site. No pushing, no shoving, no traffic jams, no hassle. You can even choose the design.

Introducing SUNLINE
World’s Best Fishing Line…from Japan

Ready for the World’s Best Fishing Line for that your favorite rod and reel outfit? Think you will never find a line that will match your needs? Well, we have a wonderful surprise for you. American Legacy Fishing Co. is now the Premier Sunline supplier in the USA.
11.09.08C

So what is Sunline? Well, it is 8 different lines of monofilament or fluorocarbon composition that are to fishing line what Megabass is to fishing lures – a completely new dimension. The Sunline products are designed to meet or exceed the fisherman’s needs, but also address the shortcoming of the current assortment of monofilament and fluorocarbon lines. The fluorocarbon lines are now manageable yet strong and sensitive. The monofilament lines are practically impervious to sunlight and UV rays, long lived, with little stretch. There are lines specifically for spinning applications as well as camouflage lines (in fluorocarbon much less).
Every Sunline product is now in stock in all pound strengths. Whether you need 2 lb test FC Sniper Fluorocarbon, Machine Gun Cast monofilament in 30 lb test, or Biwa Guide Special Fluorocarbon line specifically for spinning reels we have it. Now there is no excuse to loose fish because of your line….

G. Loomis Merlot Color Rods to be Discontinued…

We continue to add new lure colors in Megabass. No, there is not a red and green Christmas edition as yet, but there sure are a lot of new colors coming out monthly. We have also received a few Megabass knit caps, many more rods, and several reels.
this is a product that works great as a stocking stuffer or a birthday cake decoration (no, that’s not that weird), or a party favor for your fishing pals. I have even been known to use one of the Siglett lures to scare one of my daughters when placed on top of her desert. Anyway, keep these really neat lures in mind for the holidays. Whether as a fun gift or a stocking stuffer they really are wonderful.

G. Loomis Prices Increase Jan. 1, 09

Currently our inventory is very strong, so now is the time to buy.
