Hi Everyone,

G. Loomis just introduced a complete revised Escape Travel Rod Line for 2009. According to Gary Schaefer, Product Manager at G. Loomis and all around great guy, the new Escape Travel Rods offers improvements that you will really notice in the field. While Loomis has had these rods for many years, they needed to redesign them to better fit the needs of today’s fisherman.

The rod’s new mandrels use a tapered metal die; the graphite material is rolled over the tapered die to create the blank. This created a much better transfer of energy through the ferrule. And that’s critical for these shorter 3 and 4 piece rods.  When you really pull hard on a shorter rod with many ferrules, the connection points become severely pressured.  To enable the rods to flex perfectly, not feel like a club, and come back after a hard day of fishing in no more than 3 pieces, Loomis created a new design that enhances the performance immensely.

Here are a few of the key bullet points that are incorporated in the new rods:

  • Blending Material
Putting the right material in specific places heightens performance and  increases durability.
  • New Pattern Designs
Special tooling enhances the flex and performance on the cast, the hook set and the fighting ability on all exotics such as Peacock Bass.
  • Streamlining the Handles
This tightens up the line. Loomis picked the best handles, so there’s no need to have 4 different handles on 16 rods.
  • Focus on Shorter Rods
Most customers wanted 7 ½’ and shorter.  So Loomis tightened up the line to include just 10 of the top models.
  • Rod Tube & Sock
A very significant point is that Loomis added a G. Loomis rod tube to the line along with the G. Loomis rod sock.  This was one of the top requests and one that Loomis knew they had to add.  So they did.
  • Fuji Guide
Finally, Loomis wanted to find a Fuji guide that was lower framed to fit easily into the tube along, with a strong guide to take the pressure of travel. The choice was the Fuji Hardloy guides which are both super strong and lower framed.  Loomis looked at the weight difference and decided that it was not enough to make a difference in performance.

So now, you know all the details about the New Escape Series Travel Rods. Improved performance, G. Loomis hard case and sock now standard. These are great rods that will give many years of unwavering service. Of course, the G. Loomis Lifetime Warranty is always included at no additional cost.

FREE G. LOOMIS HAT WHEN YOU USE GOOGLE CHECKOUT

Our Free G. Loomis hat offer, for anyone who used Google Checkout, still stands. However, we need to clarify one thing. EBay does not allow the use of Google Checkout (they own PayPal and want you to use it instead). So you must order from our web site (www.gloomis.us) in order to use Google Checkout. We still have plenty of G. Loomis hats left and look forward to sending one to you.

COMPETITION ISN’T A HOOK FOR MANY EVERYDAY ANGLERS
We thought the following article by Steve Ford, a sports writer for our local newspaper, The Evansville Courier & Press, made a wonderful point. We think it’s worth reading and hope you will feel the same. Here’s one of Steve’s key points:

“Joe Kuti … feared the fishing industry pointed itself down the wrong path by over-marketing success, technology and competition. Kuti feared ignoring anglers who preferred the overall experience was a mistake.”

“As fishing became more about competition, Nelson mused it had become what many anglers sought to escape. Then he hit the nail on the head: “Perhaps they didn’t abandon fishing at all; perhaps fishing abandoned them.”

SEND US YOUR FISHING PICTURES

We stll need more pictures. We include as many as we can in every newsletter, and the rest we put on the Braggin’ Board. KEEP THOSE PICTURE COMING!  For now, keep sending those great shots (it doesn’t have to be a trophy to be a great picture) to us via email at sales@gloomis.us. We’ll put them in the newsletter and on the Braggin’ Board. Tell us what you caught, how big it is, where you caught it, and how. You got a good fish story there? We’d love to hear (or read) it.Tell us about the gear you used, too. We’re going to start putting that info on the Braggin’ Board, too. If your picture happens to include a G. Loomis, Megabass or Airflo product, even if it’s a hat, t-shirt, or jacket, that’s even better. We’ll pass the best of those pics on to the manufacturer.
