This Issue: 15% to 75% OFF Megabass, Koppers Live Target, Power Pro, Shimano Rods, Daiwa, Loomis, Lots More…..
Fishing on Lake Gutun (Panama Canal) Jason Wasylyk caught this gorgeous tarpon which succumbed to a trolled Rapala X-Rap using a G. Loomis ETR81-3MHC-17 travel rod with a Shimano Calais CL200DC reel. Well done, Jason!
In case you didn’t know it already, Dixie and I are what could best be described as “middle age and heading north”. Not ready to admit we are joining the ranks of older Americans, but not “spring chickens” as we like to say here in Southern Indiana. Being at this point in our lives, every so often something crosses my desk that grabs my attention. So it was a few weeks ago when a note and pictures from Ian Whitton and his lovely bride Diana from Australia crossed my desk.
Enclosed in his email were pictures of his latest trip to Western Australia and a narrative about this odyssey. I suppose it struck a responsive chord as this is what Dixie and I have on our “bucket list”. Not necessarily a trip to Australia (we’ve both been there before) but more the freedom that retirement can bring as far as wandering about, setting our own schedule, and doing whatever we please, when it pleases us. Now we aren’t planning this anytime soon, but just thinking about such things is in itself a pleasant experience.
Ian and Diana are from Sydney, Australia and Ian joined the family fishing tackle business in 1960. That business was started by his family in 1922. That’s about 90 years ago, so it’s a pretty safe bet that Ian grew up fishing and doing business in the sport he grew to love. As Ian tells it this family business distributed Mustad hooks from Norway, Mason tackle from Flint, Michigan USA, and a big range of terminal tackle from Sampo, Rosco, and other manufacturers in Japan and China. They also manufactured lures for the Australian market.
In 1996 the business was sold after Ian’s father passed away, so at that time Ian officially retired. Although he says he manages to travel with wife Diana four months out of the year, which they have been doing now for about 10 years. Exploring the beautiful country of Australia, many times in the Outback that many of his fellow countrymen have never had the chance to visit.
Ian and Diana’s latest trip was to Western Australia using a diesel 4X4 V8 Toyota Land Cruiser towing an Off Road Caravan. We call them travel trailers here in the USA – Often called caravans in other parts of the world, but we haven’t heard of an “off road” caravan until Ian sent us this information. With this “rig” Ian and Diana are well equipped to travel for long periods, self contained if necessary with the caravan’s full solar power, cooling, heating, and all necessities they will need. Ian says it’s a handy rig and once at a location they can unhook the Cruiser and go exploring. The pictures below attest that this is a well thought out rig!
Ian and Diana’s Home away from home
Diesel 4X4 Toyota Land Cruiser is just the ticket!
As Ian tells it the trip to Western Australia was great fun and definitely a remote area where it can be 600 kilometers between cities (also known as roadhouses or stations/cattle stations) and the coastal tides can range from high to low tides as much as 11 meters(!) – that’s 36 feet for those who use the US measurement system. To say that can present a bit of a challenge would be this month’s biggest understatement and one Ian says should not be underestimated, especially when visiting a remote beach. I have the picture now: you find a great beach, park and unload your gear and get into some great fishing. Suddenly you notice you have back tracked quite a way up the beach and it suddenly strikes you to check on your vehicle. Just as you glance over your shoulder, you see the tip of your vehicle rook rack slip under the water!!! We think we understand when Ian says it’s an “item to contend with”!!
Western Australia tackle shop, distance sign (in km), a genuine Aussie “station”.
Ian with a big fish, big rig, big catch with big 4X4.
It’s obvious from Ian’s pictures that he and Diana do quite well, thank you very much, when home in the caravan. This picture shows the day’s catch and some of Diana’s culinary skills, which sure makes all of us hungry.
Ian inspects the catch, prepares the fish, and Diana’s finished “product”.
In corresponding with Ian we found out that he and Diana travel for four months, but return to Sydney to visit their two daughters and three grand children. Dixie and I can relate with our three daughters and seven grandkids. But the fact that they DO get away those 4 months is certainly something we are envious of. And lest you think Ian and Diane don’t catch some fish, we have proof that they do.
Ian says in Western Australia they fished around a place called Willie Creek and hooked into threadfin salmon, or what locals called blue nose, which weigh in around 9 lbs. For these scrappy fish Ian was using a Shimano Tiralego 11′ rod, Shimano Stella 10000SW, and Power Pro 65 lb braid baited with banana prawns. These pictures attest to Ian and Diana’s fishing success.
Ian with a nice fish, waiting for the bite, Diana ready for action.
Next year Ian and Diana will be traveling back to Western Australia, only going a bit further south to Eight Mile Beach where giant salmon lurk. We hope we can share pictures from Ian and Diana’s next adventure next year. Until then we wish them the best and hope someday to be able to share pictures of our adventures with them as well as all of you.
This is what it’s all about!

Megabass lures run true and have some of the sharpest hook of any lures out there. Many of our tournament fishermen may use other brands, but when the getting’ gets tough they all tie on a Megabass lures. They’re fish-catching machines. And now they’re priced at such a phenomenal price that anyone can afford to put a great selection of these lures in their tackle box. Here’s another great lure that definitely catches LOTS of fish. These great lures have taken the fishing world by storm because they actually catch fish, not just fishermen. We carry almost EVERY Koppers Live Target Lure made and have been surprised at how many fishermen just haven’t tried these amazing lures. As Koppers says, “they match the hatch” which simply means that in these lures look like what North American fish see every day when they’re looking for their next meal. No funny colors, nothing that the fish has never seen before. These looks simply look like mealtime.
We’ve used these lures when the bite is tough and have produced some amazing results. They run true, have super sharp and tough Daiichi hooks. Best of all every lures comes with an instruction sheet that tells you how to fish the lure to make sure you get the best and maximum (read that ‘catch fish’) results.
We’ll offer 40% off on Koppers Live Target Lures for just 2 weeks and the sale is limited to what is currently in stock. No backorders, no special orders. Right now we have a great supply of these wonderful lures, so don’t delay or you will very likely be disappointed. Order now at a price that has never been offered anywhere. You will be so glad that you did!
Yikes, this one hurts! But we need to sell this particular color down, so while supplies last we’re offering you this great Power Pro Braid at 50% OFF normal retail prices. Supplies are pretty good at the time this newsletter is going out, but like all the rest of our specials we don’t think whatever we have will last at such a deep, deep discount. So, as we say in all the specials we offer, the early bird gets the worm. Or in this case, some might fine Power Pro Brained Line.
Power Pro sets the standard for braided line. If you aren’t fishing PP Braid on some of your reels you are really missing out. This stuff is tough and can really help your rod’s sensitivity as well as hook sets on finicky fish. Better yet, the super small diameter of PP vs. mono means you’re going “stealth” in a bigger (actually smaller) way.
You’ll never see Power Pro Braid at a price equal to this, so give some of the Phantom Red PP a try. But do it now, as quantities are limited and when it’s gone…it’s gone. No backorders, no special orders.
When’s the last time you could get a deal on Shimano Top-of-the-Line Cumulus and Cumara Rods? We think the answer is probably “Never”. That is until now. For the next 10 days we’re offering all Shimano Cumulus and Cumara rods at 15% off. And let’s be honest here, this just never happens – until now. Better yet, almost everyone of these rods qualifies for FREE USA SHIPPING (any rod that is $239.99 or more).
If you’re not familiar with these rods you are really missing out. These are Shimano’s top freshwater casting and spinning rods. There are 6 models in the Cumulus and 29 models in the Cumara. Needless to say we’re pretty sure you can find a rod or two that will match your style, technique, and needs perfectly. All of these rods are light as a feather and all have premium components such a Fuji SiC guides, Split Grips with custom reel seats, IM-10 blanks, etc. All carry Shimano’s “Over-the-Counter Exchange Lifetime Warranty”. We dare anyone to come up with a better rod for the normal retail price. And at 15% off, we’d say that would be impossible!
So for the Next 10 Days Only these rods are marked at 15% OFF. After that they go back to their normal selling prices. Act now and save yourself 15% along with getting one of the best rods offered today. What a deal!
Columbia, Devon & Jones, Port Authority just to name a few are suppliers of clothing to Daiwa. So offering these Daiwa clothing items at 50% off is just another unbelievable deal. Frankly, we had to limit our staff to one item each just so we would have a decent supply to offer you, our friends and customers.
Right now we have a great selection and some fairly good quantities available, but like all of our other specials we figure these will not last long, so if you see something you like snatch it up as soon as you can to avoid disappointment. There will be no backorders or special orders, so what you see on our web site or on display in the showroom is what you get.
Like we said, great quality brands that almost everyone is familiar with. You can’t see Daiwa of cutting corners or having cheapo stuff. Every item, whether a hat or a jacket, is top-of-the-line quality by a recognized manufacturer. We’ve got polo shirts, fishing shirts, t-shirts, sweatshirt hoodies, jackets, and lots more. Good stuff – GREAT DEAL at 50% OFF!

These super coolers and will hold ice (or heat) for as long as 10 days. We actually tested these in Florida last year, leaving an 80 quart cooler filled with ice, beer, bait, etc. out at the end of a dock in the sun on 90 degree days for 8 days. At the end of the 8th day everything was ice cold and we still had lots of ice in the cooler!
We told you in the last newsletter that simply by having these amazing coolers we would probably sell them down quickly. Well it’s happening! Fair warning here that these coolers are going F-A-S-T, so if having one of these babies is even close to being on your radar screen you need to order now. It has taken about 6 months to get what we now have, so that sort of gives you an idea why everyone wants an Engel.
We know these coolers aren’t cheap – the 65 quart, for example, is $339.99, but just ask yourself how many coolers you’ve thrown away over the years. If you’re like us it’s a bunch. All at about $50 – $70 a pop. Add in the expense of all the extra ice you had to buy after a day or so to keep your stuff cold or had food and drinks spoil because your cooler just didn’t hold the cold and these Engel’s are a bargain. Best of all, this will be the LAST Cooler you’ll ever buy!
Like we said, we have them in stock and can ship now. No shipping fees (to ANY USA Address), no packaging fees, just the price of the cooler. What a deal!
Many of you have asked for a 7.0:1 retrieve ratio in this “oh so light” premium low profile made-in-Japan reel. Well, Shimano listened and actually made some improvements in this model over the “standard” CORE 50’s and 100’s to accommodate the toughest fishing techniques and baits.
First improvement is a larger HEG forged brass drive gear. This is more durable gearing and necessary when moving from a 6.3:1 to the 7.0:1 retrieve using the above techniques. More “guts” for those tough applications. Add to this the new, lighter Magnumlite (who thinks up these names?) spool, superfree bearings, and longer handle/power grip and you have a reel that will handle even the heaviest, toughest applications.
Specs are: 30 in. line retrieve per revolution, 10/110, 12/90 line capacity, 11 lb drag (max), 5 bearings, 6.7 oz weight. Only 100 of these New CORE100Mg7 reels were available from Shimano and we took a bunch of those, so for now supplies are limited. Price is $399.99 and the reel is only available in right hand retrieve. Like we said, if you fish flipping, ripping, swimbait, Alabama (umbrella) rigs, or Frogs this reel is for you. It doesn’t get any better than this!
Same NRX models, but an additional color. We call it Deep Forest Green. Frankly, this is one good lookin’ rod with matching green wraps and all of the same components as the Blue NRX rods. Now we really like the Blue NRX rods, but we have to tell you that these green NRX rods are just beautiful. Never thought we would say that, but simply put, they are. If you couple the new G. Loomis NRX Green Rods up with a 2011 or 2012 Shimano Curado they look like they were made for each other. Or, throw a Shimano Core (like a CORE100mg7) or Chronarch on one and you really have one awesome outfit. Now you have a choice when it comes to the World’s Best Fishing Rod. Whatever color you decide on you can be sure that by choosing a G. Loomis NRX rod you are fishing with the very best. Lake Blue or Deep Forest Green it’s your choice. Both colors are in stock and can ship the same day your order is received.
WOW! Our World’s Best Filet Knife is finally back in stock! To celebrate and to thank you for your patience we have these amazing knives on sale for $49.99 (normally $74.99)! In the world of fillet knives this is a one-of-a-kind knife and one you will want to pass down to your kids or grandkids (once they know proper knife handling skills).
Every used rod and reel is now on-line (and can be searched by model or manufacturer) and can be put in your shopping cart and will go through the same check-out process as our new items. Plus, it will count toward free shipping! And Best of All we have just updated our listings and there is some Fantastic Stuff at Great Deals Now Available. Whether you’re looking to Save Some Money or trying to find that obsolete reel or rod that you loved long ago, be sure to take a look at our list of Used Rods and Reels that customers have traded in recently.
The big problem with fluoro lines, in our mind, has always been that you trade of line durability for no stretch. And stretch is actually GOOD. Especially when fishing reaction baits such as cranks, spinners, buzzers, etc. Without stretch you have a much greater risk of the fish coming off either at hook-set or when fighting. With some stretch the line actually compensates for some of these risks. Why do you think mono is still so popular?
This new Sunline Reaction FC line has the same softness, durability, and abrasion resistance as regular FC Sniper fluorocarbon line, but with 10% more stretch. Invisibility is increased with Sunline Reaction FC’s grey/blue tint and it’s high specific gravity (1.78 vs. water’s 1.00) allows your bait to reach maximum depth sooner and deeper. Overall this is a product we have all been waiting for.
Sunline Reaction FC Fluorocarbon line is available in 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, and 20 lb test in spools of 200 years each. Price is $22.99 We have every size IN STOCK and suggest you consider this remarkable line now while preparing your tackle for the spring fishing season. We can assure you this line will rock. Just be sure to troll it out (nothing on the end) after you put it on your reel for maximum performance! (Do this with ALL lines)
Let me make this perfectly clear from the get-go. These baits are priced Way Too Low. The Crankbaits are only $15.99 each and the Spinnerbaits are $8.99 each. Hey, these are handmade here in the USA custom baits. Hand assembled with premium TroKar and Mustad hooks, hand painted, and assembled. Like we said, Way to Cheap for the quality and performance!
Everyone is looking for an extra edge out on the water. The fact is fish have seen the same factory baits over and over. It is time to show them something a little different…..something custom. The new Stealth Custom Spinnerbaits and Crankbaits are some of the finest lures on the market. The custom hand-tied spinnerbait skirts and ultra-realistic custom painted crankbaits give you the edge you’ve been looking for.
The Stealth Custom Shop spinnerbaits are currently available in 3/8 oz. and 1/2 oz. Double Willow Leaf models. There are seven proven and tested fish catching colors that are sure to make even the pickiest bass commit. The spinnerbaits utilize an ultra-thin wire that throws off a ton of underwater vibration. Stealth’s hand-tied skirts pulse and undulate in the water like nothing the fish have ever seen.
If the spinnerbait bite isn’t happening, tie on one of the SCS1.5 or SCS1.5 DD crankbaits. These baits were designed to be some of the best shallow cranking baits in your tackle box. Currently available in six handpicked custom colors, there is an option for every water color you encounter. These baits run true out of the package, no tuning needed. The SCS1.5 square bill will run 2 – 5 ft. and the SCS1.5 DD will run 6 – 9 ft. These are high performance crankbaits that will deflect through wood and rock without getting hung up.
Say again: these baits should probably sell for between $25 – $30 at the least. And we’re pretty sure that sooner or later the manufacturer (one guy) will up and realize what he’s created and the price will zoom. Until then we’re pricing them at his suggested retail and no more at his request. Get them while you can at this incredible price. They won’t last long. We just hope the manufacturer will!
