Short story. We have been looking for a line of quality sunglasses to offer our customers for about a year. We looked at many, many brands and finally narrowed the potentials down to 5 brands. New 2012 Shimano Crucial Rods Arrive…………..

By now most of you know that Shimano introduced the all new Crucial Series rods at ICAST this last July. Neat rod, but unavailable. That is, until this week.  The “Shimano Farrie” dropped a gift this Tuesday and lo and behold, there were the new 2012 Shimano Crucial rods. Casting and Spinning. Long, short, in between. Light, medium, heavy. About 40 of the 53 models offered are here.

So is this rod any good? Well, we think so. With prices between $149.99 and $179.99 this rod offers a ton of “bang-for-the-buck” features and performance. The blank is an IM-10 which means these rods are sensitive and powerful. The reels seats are new and a bit lighter than the past Crucial’s. The guides are Fuji who’s quality is unquestionable. And the handles are black EVA which is ethylene-vinyl acetate (that’s “black rubber foam” or “expanded rubber” in layman’s terms). Believe it or not, EVA is the same stuff many body bags are made out of….

Our staff has fished some of these new rods and are impressed. Our only “pick” is the EVA handles, which some of our older staff (that would be Tom) doesn’t like as well as traditional cork. Yea, we know there are two schools here when it comes to handle material, so you will have to decide if you’re a “cork person” or a “foam person.” Maybe that boils down to a whether you’re a younger or older (like Tom). Dunno.

Seriously, these rods address most technique specific needs of the freshwater fishermen as well as offering some models for light saltwater applications. Just a reminder about our trade-in program: We cannot accept any rods or reels that are house brands. That includes reels or rods that are a Bass Pro Shops, Cabela’s, Gander Mountain, or Dick’s Sporting Goods name brand. Also, we cannot accept rods that have been modified from the factory condition. This includes tip top replacement, guide replacement, handle modification, and any other modification that would diminish the resale value. We cannot accept rods or reels deemed “vintage” where collector value is greater than functional value. Finally, we reserve the right to confirm ownership.

Starting this fall the G. Loomis factory is going to be holding some bodacious fishing tournaments that are FREE to enter as long as you have bought a new G. Loomis rod from April 1, 2011 to now. The first place prize is worth $4,000! 2^nd place is $2,300, 3^rd place is $1,580; 4^th place is $1,180, and 5^th place is $980. Teams placing 6^th and 7^th also can win some prizes along with prizes for Big Bass.

The very first one of the G. Loomis Factory “Skeleton Cup” Tournaments will be held at Barren River Lake around Glasgow, Kentucky on Saturday, September 24, 2011 (that’s this coming Saturday).
