User Question: Are the G. Loomis GLX freshwater fly rods such as models such as FR1088-4, FR1089-4, FR10810-4 using the same blanks used to make the G. Loomis CrossCurrent GLX FR1088-4 CC GLX, FR1089-4 CC GLX, etc. fly rods?
Our Answer: No, the freshwater G. Loomis GLX blanks are not the same as G. Loomis CrossCurrent GLX blanks. The tapers are not as fast, and the wall thickness is slightly less to reduce blank weight. CrossCurrent needs maximum strength for big fish and aggressive fish fighting, so G. Loomis made the decision to beef up the wall on the CrossCurrent designs. G. Loomis’ freshwater GLX fly rods can be used in salt water, and cast very well, but they would be a second choice to the saltwater CrossCurrent fly rods. Some might prefer the slightly less stiff action of these freshwater fly rods compared to CrossCurrent, but this is a personal preference decision.
- American Legacy carries every G. Loomis GLX and Crosscurrent rod in stock.
