“You are at your very best when things are worst”

September 20, 2017 By Tom Ashby Leave a Comment

The above quote from the 1984 movie Starman has always stuck with me. Isn’t it true? Isn’t this really what makes us unique. We can differ on politics, religion, education, diet, health care, you name it, but when the chips are down and our fellow man is in distress we come together and help each other.

In the last 2 weeks our country has been devastated by two terrible hurricanes. The damage from the hurricanes themselves has been multiplied many times by unbelievable flooding that has left so many of our fellow citizens without shelter, electricity, food, water, and basic human necessities. For Dixie and me it has been heartbreaking to see this.

But in this time of crisis America has shown just what we are all about. Fishermen and boaters from many states dropped everything and headed for Texas with boat, motor, and trailer hooked up to help. Never mind if they had no place to stay or knew where their next tank of gas or meal would come from. They were there to help their fellow man.

People in Florida and the coastal southeast opened their homes and hearts to others. We are seeing everyone who can pitch in to help rebuild a severely damaged infrastructure. Lives that have been impacted so traumatically are comforted by others who are providing basic necessities along with comfort, reassurance, and most importantly, love.

So here we sit in Southern Indiana wanting to do something. Wanting to help in some small way.

Emergency responders say the best thing we can do is send money. Friends who are now in Texas and Florida tell us that they have been inundated with clothing and so many other supplies that, simply put, are not needed right now and have become more of a burden than a help.

All of us here at American Legacy Fishing & Outdoors feel we must do something. We also know that unless we are part of a church or charity that is already on site we have been told it’s best for us to stay home for now due to limited accommodations and supplies. So we have come up with a program that, with your help, will help those in need.

For the next week we will donate $50 for every G. Loomis cast or spin rod purchased, $100 for every fly rod purchased. We’ve chosen 4 charities who we feel can immediately and directly benefit those impacted by Harvey and Irma. Those charities are already on site helping victims. The Red Cross, Heart to Heart International, Convoy of Hope, and Shelter Box USA are who we have chosen. Feel free to visit their websites for more information on their efforts or to make additional donations.

So it’s pretty simple: The purchase price on the rod doesn’t matter. Whether you buy a G. Loomis rod that’s inexpensive or a top end rod, we’ll be sending $50 for every G. Loomis spin or cast rod and $100 for every G. Loomis fly rod.

We know our friends and customers are absolutely the best. We know you, like us, want to help.

Thanks to all of you for your friendship, loyalty, and most importantly, compassion. Together we CAN make a difference.

Best,

Tom Ashby
