Dobyns Champion 703C – Review

Dobyns Champion
Dobyns Chmapion 703c

I might be an addict. I really might be. I am completely addicted to trying every single fishing rod I can get my hands on. There’s no worse feeling than a customer asking if I’ve ever fished with the rod they are about to buy and having to say “No I haven’t”. It’s like taking a test I didn’t study for. Anyway, in my quest to fish with every rod in the universe, I happened upon the Dobyns Champion 703c. It seems as though my favorite rod changes on a near daily basis, but if I had to pick only one rod to fish with….this would be the one for me.

The Dobyns Champion Action

What makes this rod so perfect is the action and taper of the blank. There are several factors that make one rod better than another. Sensitivity, weight, and components are three of those factors but action is the most important out of all of them. Modern rods all have quality components and are plenty sensitive enough, but what separates the true winners are spot-on actions and perfect balance. This is where the 703c really shines. It has that perfect blend of a soft tip and a strong backbone that makes it extremely versatile. The number of applications for this rod is really astounding. Whether it is a spinnerbait, chatterbait, finesse jig, jerkbait, topwater, or square bill crankbait, the 703c can handle it. It is a rod that you can use for anything and is a rod you definitely want in your rod box.

The Dobyns Champion Performance

Plenty of fishing rods feel good on the showroom floor but that doesn’t mean they perform on the water. The Dobyns Champion 703c does both. On the water it has great hook setting ability and plenty of finesse to play a big fish. It’s a lethal combination of quiet power and seems like it does whatever you ask it to do. I can’t even describe how much I love the 703c. It seems as though I rarely lose or miss a fish with this rod. The design is perfect, and it gets a big “A+” in performance.

If you’re looking for a phenomenal all purpose rod, you really need to give the Dobyns Champion 703c a look. It’s not crazy expensive and does everything you could need from a good utility rod. You won’t be disappointed. The sensitivity is there, as well as all of the other features that we have come to expect from Dobyns.
