Hi folks,
Football is really cutting into my fishing and hunting. And perhaps my domestic bliss.
Let’s face it, ever since New Years there have been a lot of football games on TV. And I like football. There have been NFL games, College Bowl games. And there are more to come. More NFL and then some all star college and pro games.
As if I didn’t know this already, Dixie is definitely not as big a football fan as I am. Just in the last week or so she has taken up knitting in the family room as I watch one game after another. That may be a bad sign.
Meals have been served in front of the TV more often than not. That may also be a bad sign.
Last night Dixie did ask, “So how long does football season go before it ends?”
Now someone married far less than 49 years to the same wonderful woman might dismiss this as just some sort of rhetorical question. But experience tells me this requires an astute (and diplomatic) answer.
“Won’t be long. Coming down to the end.”, was my response.
She just shrugged.
Our golden retrievers seem unmoved. They like it when the TV is on, there’s a fire in the fireplace, and the odd food scrap offered from time to time. But I have to confess that even in this cold, nasty weather I miss getting outdoors to fish or hunt. But hey, football will be done for the season soon and I have to watch as much as I can so it will hold me until fall. Right?
I have been trying to straighten my tackle boxes between plays or during breaks in the games, but that just hasn’t worked out. Distraction is the bane of any attempts at organization and, most of the time, somewhat counterproductive. But I keep trying since this was one of my (perennial) New Year’s resolutions.
My hunting gear seems to have fared better. Clothing is all neatly arranged in my closet, boots oiled and ready for a action. Bows pretty well tuned up and hanging up in the garage. I know I need to fix a deer feeder and there are some other small tasks that need attending to, but I just don’t want to miss even one of the “big games”.
The boat, motor, and trailer are ensconced in the garage and need cleaning and maintenance (another New Year’s resolution), but that’s a fairly big job and just doesn’t lend itself to 10 minute spurts of action between the game time outs.
The weather is supposed to warm up a bit this week, so I may try fishing on some local ponds. Still too cold to haul the boat out to Kentucky or Barkley Lake. And you just don’t know about the weather this time of year.
But for now I’ve got my butt firmly planted in front of the TV watching football. And Dixie is knitting away.
I just don’t have the heart to tell her that in no time college basketball season will be really heating up………..
This week, we have some new products that you are sure to love. The new Spro Rock Crawler 55 is going to be THE crankbait of 2015. The Concept KP reels from 13 Fishing have had more hype around them than any other reel I can remember. Why? They weight an even 5 ounces. What?!
Thanks to all of our great friends and customers who have supported us and passed our name on to their friends. We know we are only here by making sure your needs are our first and only priority. Please let me know if we ever fail to meet and exceed your expectations.
All the best,
Tom Ashby
Hey Tom, Just like you football has my attention. Annmarie teaches crocheting and leaves me to do my thing. A little cod fishing here and there in Rhode Island when the weather lets me. I can’t say enough good about your employees. They have been awesome all 3 times I’ve ordered stuff. Winter can’t get over fast enough for me. This 66 year old body doesn’t care for the cold anymore. I went to Florida last week. It was warm but very windy. 6-10 foot waves == no fishing . I did get to catch a few yellow tail snappers and red snappers. They tasted good on a cold winters night. I’m still plumbing. I can’t imagine not working at least part time. Got to stay active is my philosophy . Sean
