LOW, LOW INTERNATIONAL ROD SHIPPING COSTS We are often asked how much it costs to ship a rod Internationally. We use a Extremely Heavy Shipping Tube that weighs about 6 to 7 lbs. empty. Because of the tube weight one rod or multiple rods just aren’t a factor when calculating shipping costs. The tube has all of the weight! So, whether you order 1 rod, 5 rods, or even 10 rods the shipping cost will typically what it costs to ship ONE ROD. EVERGREEN RODS DISCONTINUED If you’re a fan of the G. Loomis GL2 rods in the Evergreen color be advised that this color has been discontinued by G. Loomis effective January 1, 2008. We were fortunate enough to buy the last remaining stocks, but alas they are just about gone. The two remaining colors in the GL2 models are Neptune, which is a beautiful deep blue, and Merlot, which is (no surprise) a deep wine maroon. The “ADVICE CORNER”

G. LOOMIS ROD WEIGHTS

Fairly Frequently we are asked about a rod’s weight. When this happens we have two options. Either we weigh the rod on one of our very sensitive postal scales, or we call G. Loomis and ask the weight in the unlikely event we do not have the rod in stock. The REAL QUESTION we have is WHY DOESN’T G. LOOMIS PUBLISH ROD WEIGHTS like some other rod manufacturers? Sooooooooooo, we asked our “Expert-In-Residence” Product Manager Gary Schaefer to enlighten us. Here is his EXPERT answer:

I hate to get into the #’s game with people. My thing is I love to see the guys face light up when he holds onto the rod and says, “WOW”. All he knows is that it is the lightest thing that he has ever felt. There are rods out there that are getting lighter and some may even be a little lighter. But the light weight is not 100% of what a rod is. We factor weight as a very strong % of the overall performance triangle. But the other 2 sides are sensitivity and strength. You need to have a balance of these 3 entities to make the perfect rod.

There are guys out there that say that their rods are the lightest but are they strong enough. Some say that they are tough but are they heavy and do they transmit sensitivity through the rod. We balance that all out and make all three of those attribute a strength. So when someone asks what our weights are we say that it is as light as we can make it to keep the strength that you need for total performance.

What happens is if you rely totally on weight then it is a total #. The lighter the rod supposedly the better the rod is. That is not really the case. We do actually have a very light weight to strength ratio but to rank it on weight only would be wrong.

Some other things that are at risk on rod weights is that what causes more weight than anything else is the glue and finish that is added to the product. It is very difficult to control the amount of glue that the cork will take so the rods will fluctuate. We always had problems when we did quote weights when people would say that their rod was off from the printed weight. Their questions were,”Are you sure that I have the right rod”. So we took the weights off and let the rods speak for themselves.
