NEWS FLASH – April 26, 2009

WE SAY “Thanks” TO OUR CUSTOMERS…with $$!

Hi Friends,

My, my. It surely is Spring! This weekend here in Southern Indiana we could possibly reach a balmy 90 degrees (F)! And I’m fairly certain this confirms spring’s arrival given the large crop of weeds that have suddenly appeared everywhere in my yard, driveway, and on the deck. The trick now is to take care of these “distractions” so I can get on the water and into some fish!

We’ve got a great newsletter this issue. Lots of good stuff that we are sure every reader will have some interest in. We start off with a “Thank You” $50 discount to you, our great friends and customers. We have also added Daiwa to our offering list of the world’s best fishing gear. More info on this below. We also had the honor of having a story written about us in the Evansville (Indiana) Business Magazine. Details and a link to the complete story are included in this newsletter.

As we always do we have another great fishing story along with some very important (and often overlooked) information that could help you avoid serious injury. If you read nothing else in this newsletter, please take time to read our column on boat trailer safety. Finally, we have some absolutely fabulous pictures this issue along with some other fun stuff.
We hope you’ll enjoy this newsletter as much as we did in putting it together!

Tight Lines,

Tom Ashby

DAIWA Joins Our Product Offering………..

We are very happy to announce that Daiwa Reels and Rods have joined the American Legacy Fishing family of Top-Line products. We now have in inventory the Very Best of the Daiwa line including the STEEZ, ZILLION, TEAM DAIWA, PLUTON, FUEGO, SALTIGA, and SALTIST reels as well as STEEZ, ZILLION, and FUEGO premium rods.

We have always been big fans of the Shimano products, but have to admit that Daiwa makes some awesome rods and reels, especially in their high-end offerings. Many of you have asked us to consider stocking these wonderful rods and reels, so we have. After all, you, our customers, determine our direction!

If you have never looked over the Daiwa STEEZ Rods you really have missed out on one of fishing’s better products. They are unbelievably light, sensitive, and strong. All the qualities you should be looking for in a premium rod. And looks? Wow! truly works of art.

We found the Daiwa top-end reels to be just as amazing. All are made in Japan and are equally remarkable in their quality construction and design. Again, all we can say is this is where functionally meets art. Beautiful fishing gear that you can pass down to generations. Take a look at all of the Daiwa Products on our web site. You will not be disappointed.

If you do not find what you’re looking for please contact us. As this is a new line, we need your feedback in what you want us to offer.

G. LOOMIS RODS COMING IN FAST………………

We are overjoyed to report that the Loomis factory has really stepped up both the quantities as well as assortment of rods shipped lately. We’re still not at 100% stock levels, but we ARE above 90% which has been a challenge to reach over the last 2 or 3 months. There are still some series that we simply can’t get, but deliveries of the GreenWater, RoaringRiver, and Trout Spin have really improved. We are told that this will continue and by the middle of the year we should be back to “normal”. If the last 2 weeks are any indication, this seems a realistic expectation to us.

MEGABASS LURES PRODUCE SERIOUS RESULTS………

Our pros have hit the water pretty hard this spring and report that the Megabass Vision 110’s, Z-Cranks, MD-X, and MR-X are, in their words, “tearing them up”! Check our gallery below to see Pro Adam Daywalt’s 7+ lb “Big Fish” winning bass. We have a better selection than ever of Megabass Lures, Rods, and accessories. AND, we have held our pricing at 2008 levels despite price increases from Megabass. If you’re really serious about tournament fishing you can’t afford not to have Megabass lures in you box.

AMERICAN LEGACY Makes the (local) News……….

We had the huge honor of being featured in a story by Evansville Business Magazine this most recent issue. Louis LaPlante wrote what we think is a wonderfully flattering story about our young business. We wanted to share this story with all of you, so go to this link: AMERICAN LEGACY FISHING STORY and “read all about it”. Let us know what you think. As I said, we were very pleased to be included in this issue.

EXERCISE CAUTION When Launching or Loading your Boat this Spring…………………..

With winter on its way out and the warm breezes of Spring blowing the fishing bug into our lives more and more we wanted to share a warning to all of our friends who launch or load their boats on a trailer. After setting all winter, whether in inside storage or outside, things have a way of changing thanks to inactivity and the effects of weather. I think most of us know we need to check the tire pressure on our boat trailers (spare included) before the fishing season begins, and some of us even check the wheel bearings and repack them as routine spring maintenance. But how many of us actually check our winch ropes or straps?

The winch rope or strap has the greatest potential for causing severe and possibly permanent injury more any other component on your rig. And my guess is that it is seldom given anything more than a cursory look, if that. Here’s the problem: Any fraying or rotting substantially weakens the rope or strap. And it definitely isn’t proportionate to the size of the flaw. What you think is “acceptable” could easily break under a load, severely injuring your hand, arm, or any other part of your body. And we’re not talking a little “ouch” here, but a severe injury that could easily require hospital treatment, an operation, and perhaps weeks in rehab.

When the winch rope or strap lets loose it does so with the accumulated energy of the weight of your load. So, 1,000 or even 4,000 lbs of force is not that unusual. The resulting “whip” can do some big damage. And quickly.

Take it from us and our orthopedic doctor friends and check and/or replace those winch ropes or straps when even the slightest fraying or rotting or other degradation occurs. It’s a quick, inexpensive fix and will make sure your fishing season is uninterrupted and enjoyable. It will also help to make sure you boat stays in tip top shape with no damage from “backsliding”.

SUNLINE 2008 PRICES GOING, GOING, ……Almost Gone!

In one of last month’s newsletters we mentioned we intended to hold all Sunline prices at 2008 levels as long as we could. Well, folks, time is just about up. Our last order had the NEW, 30% HIGHER PRICES that we had to pay. So, we are going to have to raise our selling prices by 25% to 30%. BUT, We’re going to hold ALL Sunline Prices Until May 10th (which coincidentally is when our $50 Off sales ends). Effective Monday, May 11th prices will be increased. No “ifs”, “ands”, or “buts”.

So, NOW IS THE TIME TO BUY! The Sunline is absolutely fabulous, the prices are as low as you will EVER see them, and the inventory is strong. Give this line a shot and you’ll never use something else.
