Shimano Curado 200 I series has taken the market by the storm over the past few months. There is just something that is synonymous with bass fishing and the word Curado. The Shimano Curados are probably the most iconic low profile casting reel in the fishing world. Anglers all across the country almost seem to hang on every word when there is talk about a new Curado. But, enter the Curado G Series and the reputation was all but gone. It wasn’t a bad reel but nothing like we had come to expect from the typical Curado. Knowing this was a complete failure, Shimano set out to design, by far, the best Curado that had ever been made. A reel that would restore the public’s confidence in the Curado, as well as Shimano themselves. And I am here to tell you……Shimano knocked it out of the park with the new Shimano Curado 200 I.
I have been fortunate to fish with a lot of reels…..and I do mean a lot of reels. I have fished ultra high end reels, cheap reels, and everything in between. The new Shimano Curado 200 I is, without question, the finest reel under $200 I have ever used. It is a cut above every other reel in the price point, and I would put it up against some $400 reels when it comes to overall performance. Let’s take a look at what makes the Curado a game changer:
There are plenty of reels that will cast far but not smooth and there are plenty of reels that cast smooth but not far. The Curado 200 I does both and in a big way. It’s almost effortless on the cast (which I believe is due to the X-Ship Technology) and seems like it will cast forever. Backlashes aren’t even something that really enter my thought process when fishing the “I”. Light baits, heavy baits, calm, windy…..It doesn’t matter. This reel is perfectly tuned to handle whatever conditions are thrown its way.
This is my favorite part of the Curado 200 I. All I can say is “Wow”. The retrieve is so smooth and connected. You feel as though you are always in control and have supreme power over your lure and the fish. It’s a pretty incredible feeling whenever you are throwing a deep diving crankbait, and it comes back to the boat, easy and smooth as can be (I also attribute this to the new S3D Spool Design).
The Curado “I” is jam packed with features. It is updated with the latest in technology, which includes the SVS Infinity braking system. You really see the benefit of SVS when casting, especially into a stiff wind. The “I” is available in 3 popular gear ratios: 5.5:1, 6.3:1, and 7.2:1 for all of your fishing needs. It has extremely durable gearing that will last season after season. A silky smooth drag system tops off the whole package, a drag that will hold up and perform under even the most strenuous of conditions.
