New products are always fun and exciting, even if it’s nothing more than “just another soft plastic”. But, from time to time, a new product is released that really gets me really excited. I am a huge fan of the Strike King Rage Tail soft plastics. I love the Rage Craws, love the Menace Grub, and they just flat out catch fish. With that being said, you can imagine my excitement when I caught wind of the new Strike King Rage Tail Structure Bug. Once I got my hands on some of these, I found out they were even better than I expected.
Structure Bug Anatomy

When you first take a look at the Structure Bug, another popular bait definitely comes to mind: the Reaction Innovations Sweet Beaver. The Structure Bug may look similar but it has some key details that set it apart. First off, there is an extra set of appendages on the middle part of the bait. This adds a little more action and bulks up the profile. Although the added appendages are a nice feature, the real benefit of this design of the Rage Tail Claws on the back. Like all of the Rage Tail products, the Structure Bug displaces a substantial amount of water. Even though it’s not a big bait, fish are going to know it’s down there.
Structure Bug Application
I am a big fans of versatile lures. Finding baits that you have a lot of confidence in and applying them to a variety of techniques can really help you catch more fish. Versatility is the name of the game with the Structure Bug. It was designed to be used with the new swinging football heads (such as the Biffle Head). Just slow crawl it along the bottom and let those Rage Tail pincers go to work. It’s a deadly presentation that has accounted for a ton of big bass in the past few years. I also think the Structure Bug makes an exceptional flipping bait. It has the perfect profile for flipping either grass or wood. Others ways to use this soft bait include a carolina rig, traditional texas rig, or even as a jig trailer.
The Strike King Structure Bugs aren’t the cheapest plastics in the world ($5.49 for a 7 pk) but are definitely worth the price. They hold up well, last several fish, and all come with Strike King’s exclusive coffee scent, of which I am a firm believer (I have know idea why it works). Next time you are looking for a new soft plastic to try, take a look at the new Strike King Structure Bug.
