Welcome to “The Weekly Tip” presented by American Legacy Fishing Company. This is a weekly installment that brings you helpful tips to help you be more efficient on and off the water!
|This tip is for our midwest guys that will be battling cold weather into Spring. It came to me this morning while I was in midair after slipping on a patch of ice. Before hitting the ground, I remembered a cold spring morning making a run from Kentucky Dam Marina down to Blood River. My Dad and I were prepared to endure a pretty cold boat ride that would leave us looking like Jack Torrence from “The Shining.”|
As we were getting dressed that morning, I spotted a box of Thermacell Heat Wraps that my Dad had packed for the trip. I believe he had some back pain he was combating with them. Regardless, a lightbulb went off.
Before launching the boat, we both applied these heat wraps to our lower back under our base layer of clothing. I’m not saying that these heat wraps made the run feel like I was on a beach sipping a Mai Tai, but it did make it much more bearable.
These heat wraps also allowed me to be a bit less tense during the run down to Blood River. I don’t know that I’ll ever be able to totally relax during a cold and rough boat ride, but these sure helped me feel less tensed up when we got to where we were going… I don’t think we caught a fish that day.
