THE MUST HAVE: Shimano Stradic Ci4+ “FB” Series Spinning Reels
The new Stradic Ci4+ reels have been out for a few months now, and it’s pretty obvious that they fall into the must have category. They are even lighter than the previous generation and are incredibly well balanced. When you turn the handle, there is just no wobble in the spool. Shimano’s new Magnumlight Rotor has really made a difference in the balance and startup inertia. It takes very little effort to get the handle turning. Everything about this reel just seems to be done to perfection. It’s a gorgeous looking reel and has the performance to match its looks. For all of these reasons, this is one of our top picks for 2017.
New G. Loomis GLX Casting & Spinning Rods
Whenever G. Loomis comes out with a new series of rods, it’s our equivalent of Apple releasing a new iPhone. We piece together every little tidbit of info we can get from our rep and try to figure out what the rods are going to look and feel like. Well, all we can tell you is that once we got our hands on the finished versions of the new GLX rods, we were blown away. Given the positive feedback we have received from those who have purchased the new rods, we’d say the fishing world agrees! The complete revamping of the GLX casting and spinning bass rods was necessary, and our friends at G. Loomis did not disappoint. The casting rods are much lighter in weight and are balanced like a GLX should be. Even the longer flipping and pitching rods are incredibly light. The spinning rods are on their way, and should be in by the end of this month or early February. If you are in need (or just want) a new high end rod in 2017, your search can end with the new GLX rods from G. Loomis!
Daiwa Steez SV TW Casting Reels
There are very few reels the in the bass world that have a name as iconic as the “STEEZ”. Serious tackle enthusiasts just get giddy at the mention of a new Steez from Daiwa. Well, this one sure knocked it out of the park. It has just about everything you could want in a casting reel. It starts with a very nice profile that is easy to palm but not so small that it feels like a toy. The Steez SV TW checks in at an extremely lightweight 5.5 ounces. Even with that being said, it has the power and durability to throw bigger baits and handle the toughest of fishing conditions. Not to mention that is casts like a dream and is incredibly smooth. We couldn’t make our picks for 2017 without including this gem.
