Question: I just put 15 lb Power Pro braid on my Shimano Curado 50E and need a rod to use for barramundi. I don’t want anything too heavy since we cast lures all day and heavier rods wear me out. Can you help?
Answer: Our experience has been that when fishing barramundi the preferred rod is fairly short, oftentimes 6 ft. which gives a strong hook set as well as lots of power when you need to drag a fish out of cover. With this in mind we recommend three 6 ft. G. Loomis rods: CR722 (medium power) in GL3, IMX, or GLX blank, CR723 (medium heavy power) in GL3, IMX, or GLX blank, or CR724 (heavy power) in IMX blank. Given you want the lightest rod possible we would suggest the GLX or IMX blank rods. The IMX models are light, responsive, and have a price point that is a heck of a deal given the rod’s quality and performance. The GLX is the top-of-the-line blank material in this series of rods and will be even lighter and more responsive than the IMX and has some of the best components (reel seat, guides, etc.) available today. As with all G. Loomis rods any of these suggested models come with a Limited Lifetime Warranty.
