For the rest of his life, ALFC Pro Jacob Wheeler will be able to say these words. He will forever be one of the members of the exclusive group of legendary anglers to win the Forrest Wood Cup, the Super Bowl of bass fishing.
Let’s be frank here. Jacob Wheeler is American Legacy Fishing’s Touring Pro and a member of our staff. And now he wins the FLW Cup? Fantastic! He became the Youngest Pro to win the Cup. And he won by the Largest Margin! And got a check for $500,000 for his efforts!
We’ve supported this wonderful young man for some time and always knew he was destined for Great Things. After all, he won the BFL All American last year. Now he wins the coveted Cup. Amazing!
So just what does American Legacy Fishing and all of our customers get out of this? Well, first and foremost, Jacob helps us (and you) evaluate lots of tackle. New G. Loomis rod? Jacob tells us if it measures up. New Shimano reel? Ditto. Better yet, he gives us pointers on how to set up rods and reels, line recommendations, lures matched to conditions, etc. Jacob’s input helps all of us here at American Legacy make sure YOU get The Best. Everytime.
And occasionally we DO uncover some of his “Secrets”. Classified stuff that Pro’s typically keep close to their chest and hardly ever share. But as the dust settles and this phenomenal win sinks in, we have been told some of the specific rod and reel setups Jacob was using to win the Cup (and $500,000). If you’ve ever wondered what rods a Cup Winning Touring Pro uses for certain applications you’re about to find out This is your chance to find out what might just be your next rod and reel set up:
Topwater: G. Loomis JBR812 paired with a Shimano Core 100Mg – Jacob used prop baits and walking baits to pluck bass from laydowns and bluegill beds. He was able to catch some nice largemouth that increased his lead each day to an overall margin of 7lbs 5 ounces which is the largest margin in the history of the Forrest Wood Cup.
Stupid Tube: G. Loomis NRX852S paired with a Shimano Stradic Ci4 2500 -An Indiana staple. Wheeler had the ultimate setup with the 7’1″ NRX and his Shimano Ci4 2500.
Vibrating Jig: G. Loomis NRX854C paired with a Shimano Core 50Mg7 – Used as a search bait throughout the event to locate active fish.
Flipping: G. Loomis NRX873C paired with a Shimano Core 100Mg – Jacob targeted very specific pieces of wood and carefully dissected them with his Loomis/Shimano combo. Wheeler was pitching small Texas-rigged creature baits.
Shakey Head: G. Loomis NRX852S paired with a Shimano Stradic Ci4 2500 -Used as a utility bait to find and catch fish in deeper structure and log jams. The FLW winner was throwing shakeyhead worms throughout the event to get all the bites he knew were available.
ALFC Pro Jacob Wheeler has over 25 G. Loomis rods and Shimano reels for a reason. They flat out get the job done and catch fish. While other anglers in the Cup complained of lost fish, Wheeler put his bites in the boat. Having the right tackle is extremely important, and Jacob did not want to put the fate of his tournament in the hands of any equipment other than G. Loomis and Shimano. Don’t sacrifice quality when it counts. Fish like Jacob Wheeler. Fish G. Loomis. Fish Shimano.
